Posted by marketingbulletin on January 15, 2008

Recently a chief technical officer of Russian search engine Yandex Ilya Segalovich was giving an interview to one social networking company. I would like to briefly cover Yandex and shape its main achievements and future plans.

Yandex is a leading Russian search engine that has already exceeded the bounds of this definition. Because they are also leaders in various niches and web categories such as news, mail service, search, shopping, blogs, photo hosting, maps and others. The company was introduced in 1997 and set selling search boxes into large Russian companies as their primary object. 5 years later the enterprise became profitable and still keeps the highest ranks.

Despite the fact the company is very powerful and respective, its employee team consists only of 1000 people that are scattered in various Russian regions and abroad (Ukraine).

Yandex receives its main revenues owing to online shopping portal. It’s the primary field where the efforts exerted for. Besides the search engine cooperates nearly with all Russian companies involved with online sales.

The other Yandex web category is news aggregator. It’s a very smart system that collects data and is run by computer. It also links to relative articles and photo files via keywords. A photo hosting site is comparatively new sector opened last year. Traffic system and map with strong and accurate data ranks number one in the country. Yandex mail service compares well with another powerful mail application mail.ru that still remains a leader in this field.

Ilya Segalovich gave publicity to company’s outcomes in 2006. Over the past two years the Yandex’ revenue growth had accounted for $72 million.

Right now Yandex and Google are closely cooperating and the latter has already opened bunch of offices in Russia.
